Frequently Asked Questions
1. I’m new to matcha. Which variety should I choose?
We recommend starting with either Akira or Ki if you plan to drink your matcha as tea or in unsweetened to lightly sweetened lattes. Choose Miya if looking for a milder ceremonial variety at a more affordable price. Oka is a great option if you are interested in culinary matcha for sweetened lattes or baking while still prioritizing quality and color.
2. How many matcha beverages can I make with a 30g / 1 oz of matcha?
One serving is approximately 1g, or ½ teaspoon. At this serving size, a 30g pouch yields approximately 30 servings. More experienced matcha drinkers may prefer a stronger flavor and use a larger amount per latte, which will naturally result in fewer servings per tin.
3. What does “ceremonial-grade” mean?
“Ceremonial-grade” refers to matcha that is high enough in quality to be enjoyed on its own, as traditionally prepared in a tea ceremony.
4. Does this matcha contain any added ingredients?
No. This product is made from 100% organic Japanese matcha green tea with no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or additives of any kind.
Behind our Matcha: Strict farming and processing techniques

Shade grown for three weeks
Shading prior to harvest will block the majority of sun light. This is a traditional step in creating matcha with a direct impact on flavor and quality.

Slowly stone ground
After removing the stems and veins, tencha will be carefully ground to matcha by stone mills. The grinding process is slow enough to avoid creating excessive heat that could affect the quality of the powder.

Carefully selected leaves
This matcha is made from delicate first harvest leaves from the top of the tea plants.

Fresh matcha year-round
Semi-processed leaves are stored in temperature controlled units. Those leaves will be processed and ground to matcha in small batches, as needed, which allows for freshly ground matcha through out the year.

Prepare a wonderful bowl of matcha
Start by sifting the matcha. Then, whisk it vigorously or shake it well to create a drink with the classic frothy layer on top.
